Walsall Karate Dojo Members Complete Karate-A-Thon
On Sunday 15th February three Walsall Karate Dojo students, Amber Bannister, Lewis Bradbury and Darren Rushton along with Lacie Stembridge from Kaizen No-Michi formed team "Viscious Delicious" and took part in the JKS Karate-a-thon in Sheffield. The event was organised to raise funds for the JKS England squad for future international competitions.
The event lasted for 12 hours and 15 teams of 4 participated. There were 12 x 1 hour sessions, each instructed by a member of the JKS England team plus National Head Coach Matt Price Sensei. Each team had to have at least one team member training in all of the training sessions.
The instruction featured many and varied aspects of kihon, kata and kumite. These included, use of the hips in basics, katas Heian Nidan and Gankaku with bunkai, and the use of shoulder snap to generate power; as well as footwork for kumite, plyometrics and grappling and holds. Great spirit and determination was shown by everyone who participated in an exhausting but enjoyable day of training.
Amber, Lewis and Darren completed 20 hours of training between them and raised over £500 between them for the JKS squad fund.
